Tunstall's Last Ride
1878
Under pressure from Jimmy Dolan's men, John H. Tunstall struck out from his store in Lincoln to try to enlist the help of John Chisum at his ranch near Roswell. Unable to get help there, he headed to his own ranch on the Rio Feliz where he picked up Billy the Kid, Dick Brewer and other men in his employ. The men started for Lincoln, but were soon pursued by more of Dolan's men. Tunstall had ridden an incredible 160 mile round trip in 24 hours when he was gunned down by Dolan's possee.
